56: How to Succeed as a Highly Sensitive Entrepreneur

Have you ever been told that you are a sensitive person? Do you tune into people’s feelings, and those feelings impact you?
Heather Dominick joins me to talk about how that is not necessarily a bad thing, yet it may pose some unique challenges. We dive into what it means to be a highly sensitive person, how to be purposeful, profitable and empowered as a highly sensitive entrepreneur (HSE).
According to Dr. Elaine Aron, 20% of the world’s population is genetically born as highly sensitive individuals. Generally, these are the creatives. The writers, historians, philosophers, coaches, and artists. It’s not something you picked up in the playground, inherited from your parents or your environment growing up. It comes down to how your nervous system is specifically wired to take in stimulation at a much higher degree than someone who is not highly sensitive.
We’re talking stimulation of all senses; everything from sight, sound, smells, information, emotions, and energy. For those high on the sensitivity spectrum, this can cause a lot of challenges.
Often, we fall into overwhelm and over responsibility, which leads to leaning on several coping mechanisms, like pushing, hiding and combo-plattering. HSE’s experience of self-employment can be emotionally draining and frustrating.
So, as Heather will explain in this episode, how do we shift from coping to creating? How do we take on our highly sensitive abilities and use them as our strengths?
Let’s figure out what’s needed for HSE’s to create a space of success from the get-go.
