Have you ever found yourself struggling to find common ground with an older or younger generation?

Are you a Boomer, and you find it difficult to relate to your 20-something-year-old technology obsessed employee?

Or are you one of those 20-year-olds, who doesn’t understand the different views of the world their older boss, colleagues or family members have?

Get ready to dive deep into the breeding ground of misunderstanding, defensive reactions, and potential conflict. It’s all happening right under our noses – across generations.

Specifically, the Boomers, Gen Xers, and the Millennials.

In this episode, I uncover the one reason there is tension between generations – particularly the Boomers and Millennials. Can you guess what it is?

It’s the unknown and unrelatable.

We know that humans become uncomfortable in the realm of the unknown. It’s thanks to our observational and predictive abilities that we have survived as a species. Whenever we are unsure if something is safe, whether it be a place or an interaction with a person, our fight or flight response kicks in. And chances are, we flee at the first chance.

With that in mind, and knowing the vast differences between generations, you can see how a clash in values, beliefs and a lack of defining shared experiences leads to unrelatability.

So, I’ve recognized the top three factors you need to keep in mind when it comes to understanding, communicating and dealing across generations.

From being mindful of just these things, you will be able to find common ground. No matter what generation you are from.
